William Haimes, who was born in Bardsley, Yorkshire, and a musician by profession, enlisted in February 1915. Posted to the 25th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, he died on active service in East Africa on 8 February 1916. He was the son of Joseph and Hannah Haimes of Oldham, was 30 years of age and is buried in Kajiado Cemetery, near Nairobi, Kenya.
