Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 5 clasps, Tel-El-Kebir, Suakin 1884, El-Teb-Tamaai, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (1942 Pte. E. Wootten, 19th Hussars) light pitting, nearly very fine £800-1000

The whole of the 19th Hussars served on the Nile, of whom 7 officers and 128 other ranks fought at Abu Klea. Two officers and 42 other ranks received a 5-clasp medal including Abu Klea.

Edward Henry Wootton was born at Norwood, near Croydon, London, and enlisted on 13 August 1878, a carpenter by trade, aged 18 years 10 months. He served in Egypt and the Sudan from August 1882 to June 1886, and was a shoeing smith from June 1884 to August 1886, when he transferred to the Army Reserve. He was discharged on 12 August 1890. Sold with copy discharge papers which verify medal and clasps.
