Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (6236 Pte. J. Hamilton, 3/Rif. Bde.) light pitting from star, otherwise very fine £600-700

1 officer and 25 other ranks of the 3rd Rifle Brigade served on the Nile in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment, of whom the officer and 22 other ranks fought at Abu Klea.

John Hamilton was born in Dublin anf enlisted into the 67th Foot at Frimley on 8 November 1870, aged 18. He was appointed a Bandsman in August 1876 and served with the 67th in Afghanistan in the actions at Charasia and Kabul (medal with two clasps). Hamilton re-attested in October 1883 and was posted to the 3rd Battalion The Rifle Brigade, with whom he served in the Nile Expedition and at Abu Klea. He was appointed Musician in August 1886 and was discharged after 18 years’ service on 12 May 1890. Sold with copy discharge papers.
