Basil St John Mundy was born on 4 April 1862, and appointed Lieutenant in the 1st Dragoon Guards on 2 August 1882, and transferred to the 5th Lancers shortly afterwards. He was promoted to Captain in August 1887, transferred to the 15th Husars in July 1890, and promoted to Major Retired in April 1897. He served with the Sudan Expedition in 1885.
