Edward Jenkins was born in Kingsand, Devonshire in September 1842 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in July 1857. Given his subsequent service aboard H.M.S. Amethyst from July 1873 to June 1878, he must have been entitled to the Ashantee 1873-74 Medal, to which he added his L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1875.
