William Nelson Gardner was the son of Mr and Mrs R. Gardner of Wellington. Serving as a Private in the Auckland Regiment, N.Z.E.F., he was killed in action in Gallipoli on 8 August 1915. His name is commemorated on the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial.

Sold with note stating the Coronation Medal may be attributed to either Miss R. I. or M. J. Gardner.
