George Alfred Johns was born in Merewether, New South Wales, on 24 March 1909. He was appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve (Seagoing) on 15 November 1939. He was posted to H.M.A.S. Moresby, a survey vessel, on 6 January 1940 as Assistant Surveyor. On 21 February 1943 he was appointed Commander of H.M.A.S. Cootamundra, an ocean minesweeper and corvette. On 23 December 1944 he was appointed to H.M.A.S. Kuttabul as Staff Officer. Then on 3 July 1945 he was placed in command of H.M.A.S. Wilcannia, a R.A.N. Auxiliary Ship. On 6 November 1945 he was appointed to H.M.A.S. Rushcutter - the H.Q. of the R.A.N. at Garden Island. He was discharged on 26 November 1947. After the war he continued to serve in the R.A.N.V.R. and was appointed a Lieutenant in November 1945 and a Lieutenant-Commander in December 1947. Lieutenant-Commander Johns was transferred to the Retired List on 24 March 1967. He was awarded the R.N.V.R. Decoration by the London Gazette of 15 March 1963. Sold with copied research.
