Francis Dorrington David Vincent was born on 2 September 1916. Employed as a Clerk with the Corporation of the City of Cape Town, he attested for the R.N.V.R. on 1 July 1935. Vincent was rated as a Signalman. He was discharged on 30 June 1939 being time expired and was transferred to the Class “A” Reserve (Naval). On 1 December 1939 he enrolled in the R.N.V.R. (S.A.) War Reserve as a Signalman and was posted to Afrikander III. Vincent served until 8 January 1946 when he was demobilised having attained the rank of Yeoman of Signals. He had served at Cape Town, Simonstown, East London and Walvis Bay. He was awarded the R.N.V.R. Long Service Medal by the Union of South Africa Government Gazette of 29 September 1944.
