George Taylor was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire on 1 September 1859. He was attested on 1 November 1880 at Nottingham, sailed for India in March 1881 and joined the Supply and Transport Corps in May 1887. Taylor was promoted to Colour-Sergeant in May 1888 and Supernumerary Sub-Conductor of the Commissariat Transport Department, Bengal, in May 1898. He was advanced to Conductor, Supply and Transport Corps, Bengal, in July 1903 and was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1904. In December 1910 Taylor was promoted to Assistant Commissary with the honorary rank of Lieutenant; in November 1913, Deputy Commissary with the honorary rank of Captain, and in June 1916 he was advanced to Commissary with the honorary rank of Captain. He retired on account of ill health on 3 September 1916. Sold with original (damaged) card boxes for the Great War Medals, copied service papers and other research.
