William John Hall was born on 17 February 1879 at Fataghur, Bengal. Hall joined the services as a Boy on 31 July 1890. He served with the Rifle Brigade in the Boer War and was awarded the Queen’s medal with clasp for Transvaal. During the Great War he served with the Royal Marines, for which he was awarded the British War and Victory Medals. On 18 June 1916 he was awarded the Naval L.S. & G.C. He was discharged on 15 February 1919. Hall then moved to Canada. On 18 October 1923 he enlisted in Quebec for the Permanent Force of Canada into the Royal 22nd Regiment. He enlisted for the Canadian Army Active Sevice Force on 1 September 1939 but was discharged on 2 December 1940. During his Canadian service he was awarded the Coronation Medal of 1937 and the War Medal 1939-45. He was also awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal (Canada), this published in the Canada Gazette of 18 September 1943. Hall died on 31 March 1944.
