Stanley Edgar Alfred Curram was born in Hackney, London, on 21 January 1895. He enlisted into the 18th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) on 31 August 1914. Curram was granted a commission as a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on 29 August 1917. On 20 February 1918 he was appointed a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Machine Gun Corps, and on 1 March 1919 he was advanced to Lieutenant. He relinquished his commission, retaining his rank, on 4 November 1919. He was attested on 26 April 1920 into the British South Africa Police. On 16 February 1924 he was seconded to the Southern Rhodesia Defence Force as an Instructor with the Western Division. On 4 March 1924 he was promoted Corporal, B.S.A. Police and on 1 October 1926, to Staff Sergeant. He was discharged on transfer to the Southern Rhodesia Defence Force Permanent Staff on 2 September 1927. He was attested to the Southern Rhodesia Defence Force Permanent Staff in the rank of Sergeant and was promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2 on 1 August 1931. In this rank he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal (Southern Rhodesia), this published in the Colony of Southern Rhodesia Government Gazette of 26 May 1933. Curram was promoted to Warrant Officer Class 1 on 1 April 1934. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant on 1 May 1937, promoted to Temporary Captain on 1 August 1940 and Temporary Major on 24 June 1942. During February-June 1943 he was a Temporary Major serving with East Africa Command. Major Curram retired on medical grounds on 8 February 1944 and reverted to the substantive rank of Captain. He died in Salisbury on 14 May 1948. Sold with copied research.
