Leslie Ralph McCallum enlisted into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the early 1930’s. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on the General List on 15 June 1943 and became Captain (Quartermaster) in 1945. In October 1946 he was given a Short Service Commission as Captain (Q.M.) in his old regiment, the Argyll’s. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. Medal in the London Gazette of 23 June 1950. Captain McCallum resigned his commission on 16 June 1952.
