Five: Petty Officer (A.) F. R. Feltoe, Fleet Air Arm, who flew operationally in Barracudas in the Burma camapign in 1944

Feltoe, who was from Benton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, commenced aircrew training at No. 1 T.A.G. School, Worthy Down in August 1942 and, after attending an Air Gunnery Course at St. Merryn, was posted to No. 782 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, at Donibristle, in April 1943, which unit shortly thereafter moved to Inverness as a communications unit. Having then gained further flying experience in the latter role, he was posted to No. 827 Squadron, F.A.A., that August, and thence to No. 822 Squadron, F.A.A., flying Barracudas as part of 45th Naval T.B.R. Wing in the Eastern Fleet. Removing to No. 756 Squadron, F.A.A. in Ceylon in July 1944, and thence to 831 Squadron, another Barracuda unit, aboard H.M.S. Victorious in China Bay that September, he participated in a low-level attack on Puttalam on 4 October, with Sub. Lieutenant Hamersley as his pilot, and Sub. Lieutenant Lown as Observer. This, however, appears to have been his last operational posting.

Sold with the recipient’s original Flying Log Book (R.A.F. Observer’s and Air Gunner’s - Form 1767), covering the period August 1942 to October 1944, together with his Order for Release from Naval Service, dated at the Royal Naval Air Station Abbotsingh, 10 May 1946.
