A superb suite of presentation silver presented to Surgeon Major William Munro, C.B. on his leaving the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders having gained promotion in 1867, comprising a magnificent circular silver salver, 46cm, profusely decorated with flowers, etc and a raised beaded edge, with four elaborate feet, the centre of the tray engraved with family coat of arms and motto ‘Dread God’ and further inscribed ‘Presented to Surgeon Major William Munro, C.B., 93rd Sutherland Highlanders on his leaving the regiment on promotion as a testimony of the sincere esteem and regard of his brother officers, India 1867’; together with matching tea pot; coffee pot; milk jug and sugar basin, these pieces all with identical decoration and similarly engraved with the Munro coat of arms, all with makers mark ‘R.H.’ and hallmarks for London 1867, the whole contained with in their original custom-built oak, metal-bound trunk, the interior fitted with blue velvet lined compartments to house each piece, the salver contained within a removable top tier and the other pieces stored beneath, four compartments empty suggesting that a further four items were originally included with the set, the teapot with an old repair to handle, otherwise good condition £2000-3000
