Harold Vernon Prynne was born on 26 November 1869, and educated at Middlesex Hospital (F.R.C.S., L.R.C.P.). He joined the medical service in 1894 and served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. in China 1900, where he was present at the relief of Tientsin, the relief of Pekin, and the actions at Peitsang and Yangstun (Despatches London Gazette 6 November 1900. Medal with Clasp). He was promoted to Major in October 1905, to Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1915, and to Colonel in December 1917. He served in the Great War 1914-18 (Despatches London Gazette 4 January 1917). Colonel Prynne retired as A.D.M.S. on 26 October 1919.
