A scarce Inkermann D.C.M. pair awarded to Corporal Charles Troke, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards

D.C.M. recommendation dated 2 April 1855. Awarded for the battle of Inkermann, 5 November 1854.
Charles Troke was born at Holdenhurst, near Christchurch, Hampshire, and attested at Chichester for the Coldstream Guards on 13 November 1847, aged 20 years 2 months. According to his service papers he served abroad ‘2 years 4 months with the Army in the East; was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann & Siege of Sebastopol’, and distinguished himself ‘at Inkermann for which he was granted a Gallant Conduct Medal and Gratuity of £5’.
Troke was discharged on 31 March 1857, in the rank of Corporal to which he had been promoted in January 1856. His character was reported by the Regimental Board to be ‘good. Was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann and Sebastopol. He has received a Medal & four Clasps, and also a Medal for Distinguished Service, is in possession of one good conduct ring.’ Sold with copy discharge papers.
