19th Century, Victoria, Golden Jubilee, 1887, a lead medal, unsigned [by Sir A. Gilbert], for the Art Union of London, crowned bust right, rev. ship of state, 63mm, 176.62g (BHM 3246; E 1735; B 30). Very fine and on a very thick flan; believed unpublished as a lead medal (£150-200)

Only otherwise known in silver (30 struck) and copper (40 struck: see lot 2117 in this sale). Quite possibly a trial of the dies; the flan thickness is double that of the issued copper medal
