William III (1694-1702), Halfcrown, 1696 Y over E, large shields, early harp, octavo (ESC 529-R4). Only fair, but extremely rare (£30-40)

The ESC rarity rating indicates a surviving population of eleven to twenty. The accuracy of this estimate is difficult to access, but this is the first example of this overstiking the cataloguer can recall handling. The example in the Lord Hamilton collection (lot 192, bought Seaby 1950) was good fine but pitted and with scratches to surfaces.
