Macrinus (217-218), Macrinus (217-218), Aureus, c. 218, IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, wearing long beard, seen from behind, rev. LIBERALITAS AVG, Macrinus and Diadumenian, laureate and togate, seated left on platform, each extending right hand to small figure climbing stairs and holding out fold of toga to receive donation, Liberalitas standing at left, holding abacus and cornucopiæ, lictor holding fasces standing behind imperial couple, 7.21g/11h (RIC 79; Clay issue 3; Calicó 2947; C 43). Extremely fine with brilliant fields, well-centred and struck, bold late portrait (£15,000-20,000)
