John Knight was born on 10 June 1876. As a Private in the 4th Dragoon Guards, he served in India, and took part in the operations on the North West Frontier during 1897-98. Prior to the outbreak of the Great War, he had been promoted Sergeant-Trumpeter. In the Great War, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 16 August 1914. For his services in the Great War, he was awarded the 1914 Star with clasp; the British War and Victory Medals and the Army Meritorious Service Medal. The latter was awarded through the London Gazette of 17 June 1918 ‘in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France during the present war’. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. by Army Order 125 of April 1917. Knight was discharged to a pension at the termination of his engagement on 10 April 1919. He was recommended for the Army Meritorious Service Medal with Annuity on 24 March 1921 and was awarded the medal itself on 26 July 1951, thus receiving two Meritorious Service Medals. Sold with some copied research.
