Maryport was developed by the Lords of the Manor of Ellenborough, the Senhouses. It is possible that this piece, which would appear to date to the first half of the 18th century, was authorised by Humphrey Senhouse Jr (1706-70), who renamed Ellenfoot as Maryport in honour of Mary, his wife
