Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal, Orange Free State (78781 Gnr., 15th Coy. S.D., R.G.A.) last clasp loose as issued; China 1900, no clasp (78781 Gr., No. 91 Co. R.G.A.); King’s South Africa, 2 clasps (78781 Gnr., R.G.A.) together with brass cap badge, small grenade badge and shoulder title, good very fine and a rare combination (6) £200-250

George Prince was born in March 1872, in the parish of Bright-Walton, Wantage, Berkshire, and enlisted into the Royal Artillery in April 1890. He served in South Africa with the 15th (Seige Train) Company, Southern Division R.G.A., and was engaged against the Boers at Paardeberg and Driefontein, although he qualified for the Orange Free State clasp with the 14th Company, Western Division R.G.A. In July 1900 he went to China where he served with 91 Company R.G.A. but, with the war in China drawing to a close, he was sent back to South Africa in March 1901, where he again served with the 15th Company Seige Train, earning the King’s medal with two clasps. He returned to the U.K. in August 1902 and was discharged the following month, receiving a South African War Gratuity of £5 and a Special Gratuity of £1.5.0.
