Lieutenant Kenneth Charles Bruff McDonell was born in June 1895 and educated at Charterhouse; commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 7th Cameron Highlanders on 17 October 1914 and promoted Lieutenant just four days later. He was sent to France in July 1915 and appointed Batallion Intelligence Officer; wounded at Maroc on 9 September 1915, rejoining his battalion on 12 March 1916; attached to the R.A.F. from 23 July 1916.
