Robert II (1371-1390), Groat, Dundee, mm. cross pattée, tressure of six arcs, trefoils in spandrels, b behind head, dei omitted from legend, double saltire stops, double saltires at end of legend, rev. broken n in dns, 3.56g/2h (cf. SCBI 35, 477-8; cf. B 15, fig. 332; S 5135). Very fine and very rare £600-800

Provenance: Dr C. Dunbar Collection, Spink Auction 64, 23 June 1988, lot 90.

The letter
b behind the head is not entirely clear. Whether this is due to accidental wear, damage to the die or a deliberate attempt to alter it is not entirely clear. Mrs Murray noted a specimen of B 328 without the b behind the head, while the cataloguer has seen a Halfgroat where the b has been erased from the die
