James II (1437-1460), Second coinage, First issue, Groat, Edinburgh, mm. cross pattée on obv. only, crown in first and fourth quarters, three pellets in second and third quarters, legend reads cns and begins at 3 o’clock, 3.30g/7h (cf. SCBI 35, 694, same obv. die; cf. B 7, fig. 517; S 5231). King’s face a little flat, otherwise nearly very fine, rare £500-700
