George Boon mentions the extraordinary use of the vernacular title Erl, corrected from the previous interpretation by Mack who read the letters as F RE (Filius Regis]. The present specimen confirms this revised reading. The blundered moneyer’s name (the second letter is unequivocally a B) is not mentioned by Boon in his description of the two known reverse dies, suggesting that this may be a third, previously unpublished reverse
