Walter Charles Davis was born at Sturry, Canterbury, and enlisted at Canterbury on 16 May 1894, aged 19 years 3 months. He served overseas in South Africa, December 1899 to October 1902, and from June 1905 to October 1908; and in Hong Kong, October 1908 to December 1910.
