The London Association was said by Mitchiner to be a Home Guard militia. The recipient is thought to be Henry Woodthorpe Sr (†September 1825), clerk to the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers, 1785-1803. Woodthorpe was elected as London’s town clerk in December 1801 and was succeeded in that post by his son in September 1825. Sold with a photocopy of the portrait of Woodthorpe in the Guildhall Art Gallery.
