Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann (Joseph Phillips. 4th Lt. Dragns.) officially impressed naming, minor edge bruising and a few surface marks, otherwise better than very fine £6000-8000

First sold at Sotheby in July 1926, and by Spink in March 1996 as part of the Tooze collection of Crimea Medals (Lot 704).

Joseph Phillips was born in Buckinghamshire circa 1832. A chair maker by trade he enlisted into the 4th Light Dragoons on 11 January 1849, and served with the regiment in the Crimea in 1854. He was wounded in the charge at Balaklava and died in the Regimental Camp on 9 December 1854.
