John Lavery was born in Jarrow, Co. Durham, lived in Lichfield, Staffordshire, and enlisted at Jarrow. Serving with the 3rd Dragoon Guards, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 6 November 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
