Walter Bush was born in the Parish of Hoo, Rochester, Kent. A Checker by occupation, he attested for short service with the Dragoons of the Line at London on 5 February 1900, aged 18 years, 4 months. Posted to the 1st Royal Dragoons in March 1900 he served in South Africa, December 1900-September 1902, for which service he was awarded the Queen’s Medal with five clasps. He was discharged at his own request and on the payment of £18 on 20 November 1903. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
