A rare and well-documented jet pilot’s Malaya G.S.M. awarded to Flight Lieutenant W. Alcock, Royal Air Force, who saw action in Vampires and Venoms of No. 60 Squadron

General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, E.II.R. (Fg. Off. W. Alcock, R.A.F.), good very fine £400-500

William Alcock served in the Royal Air Force from September 1952 until September 1964, a career which witnessed him complete numerous sorties as a pilot in Vampires and Venoms of No. 60 Squadron in the Malaya Emergency between March 1955 and May 1957. The following details have been taken from his Flying Log Book:

1955:

Alcock ended his operational tour with No. 60 Squadron in July 1957, his flying assessment noting that he was unable to renew his instrument rating because of medical unfitness. Indeed he did not fly again until taking up an appointment at R.A.F. Lyneham in May 1958. In the following year he converted to Meteors and Hunters, prior to joining a ferrying unit at R.A.F. Benson, in which capacity he served until transferring to H.Q. 38 Group at Odiham in early 1961.

Sold with the recipient’s original Flying Log Books (5), comprising R.C.A.F. edition covering the period February 1953 to May 1960; R.A.F. edition covering the period June 1960 to September 1962, and another similar, June 1963 to April 1964; and civil aviation logs (2), covering assorted dates between September 1964 and December 1976.
