Private William McMillan, Railway Pioneer Regiment, was discharged as ‘time expired’ on 24 April 1902, aged 21 years. His civilian trade was given as ‘Mason’. At this time his mother and next-of-kin, lived at 49 Cornwall Street, Glasgow. During the Great War he served in the Mercantile Fleet Auxiliary and Merchant Navy. He was awarded the Corporation of Glasgow Bravery Medal on 26 October 1926:
‘Mr William McMillan, 20 Hartfield Street, Townhead, who, on 3rd instant, rescued a boy from drowning in the Forth and Clyde, near Castle Street’. Sold with copied discharge paper, 1902 and citation details.
