Sydney Woodward Lincoln was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment on 28 January 1882. Transferring to the Bombay Establishment in March 1883, he served as a Lieutenant in the 23rd Bombay Infantry in Burma during 1886-87. He took part in the operations of the 3rd and 4th Brigades under Brigadier-Generals H. S. Anderson and R. C. Low, C.B., including the repulse of the night attack on Lingadaw (medal with 2 clasps).
In June 1887 he was appointed to be Deputy Assistant Commissariat General and in February 1890 was promoted to be Assistant Commissariat General 1st Class based at Karachi. Thereafter he served on the Commissariat and Transport Staff. Lincoln then served in the operations on the Samana Range, 1891 and the affair at Mastaon (clasp) and at the Relief of Chitral in 1895 (medal and clasp).
During 1897-98 he was Malakand and then Buner Base Commissariat Officer (clasp), for which he was twice mentioned in despatches. At the end of the Great War he was Lieutenant-Colonel and Officer in Charge of Supplies at Secunderabad.
Sold with copied research; confirmed on the Delhi Durbar Roll, one of 63 awarded to the Commissariat and Transport Department.
