Mwenyeali, of the Yao Tribe, from the village of Chitanganya, enlisted into the King’s African Rifles at Zomba on 28 June 1909, aged 24 years. With them he served in Nyasaland, June-November 1909; East Africa, November 1909-May 1911; Nyasaland, May-September 1911; Zanzibar, September 1911-May 1912; Jubaland, May 1912-September 1914; then British East Africa from September 1914. As a Sergeant he was discharged on 10 June 1918.
