M.S.M. London Gazette 22 January 1920. ‘... for valuable services rendered with British Forces in Siberia’.
Reginald George was born in Stepney, Middlesex. A Cook by occupation, he attested for the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry on 4 September 1914, aged 30 years, 2 months. Posted to the 8th Battalion, he served with the B.E.F. in France, 22 September-12 November 1915, and then with the Expeditionary Force Mediterranean, 13 November 1915 onwards, landing at Salonika, 23 November 1915. Rising quickly through the ranks, he was appointed Acting Company Quartermaster Serjeant on 3 March 1915 and was confirmed in that rank twenty days later. He was promoted Company Sergeant-Major on 2 September 1916. George was transferred to ‘Dunsterforce’ and served with them in Persia during 1918. In December 1918 he was transferred to the ‘British Military Mission, Siberia’ and in January 1919 disembarked at Vladivostock. George returned to England in October 1919 and was demobilised on 10 October 1919. For his services in Siberia he was awarded the M.S.M. With copied service papers.
