Clara Lonsdale was born in Colne, Lancashire, on 15 June 1882. Entering the Nursing Profession, she received her medical training at The Hospital Chesterfield, 1905-08. She was accepted into the Q.A.I.M.N.S.R. on 2 February 1909. Prior to the war she was serving at the Stanley Hospital in Liverpool. She volunteered for service with ‘His Majesty’s Forces’ on 14 June 1915 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 October 1915 and served at a number of clearing stations and hospitals. Sister Lonsdale was released from duty on 25 February 1919 and sailed for Canada on 11 April 1919. With a photograph believed to be of the recipient and copied service papers.
