Private Percy Sprules, 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 7 April 1915. He was killed in action on 1 July 1916 -the first day of the battle of the Somme, aged 21 years. He was buried in the Ovillers Military Cemetery.

His brother, Private Frederick William Sprules, Warwickshire Yeomanry, was killed in action in Egypt on 8 November 1917, aged 32 years. He was buried in the Gaza War Cemetery, Israel.

They were the sons of Frederick William and Eliza Sprules of 11 Sylvester Mews, Notting Hill, London.
