Robert William Spice was born in Northfleet, Kent, on 26 November 1891. A Merchant Seaman by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 6 September 1910 and was promoted to Stoker 1st Class in November 1911. He served on the scout cruiser Pathfinder from 1 October 1913 and was killed in action when the vessel was torpedoed and sunk by the U-21 off St. Abb’s Head on 5 September 1914. His name is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. With copied service paper.
