Sydney Christmas Bennett was born in 1888. He was educated at Sherborne School, 1903-07, and as well as his prowess in the pool, was in the Rugby XV in 1906. He was in the Middlesex XV during the years 1908-12. As an Engineer, he qualified as an A.M.Inst.C.E. and worked in Kenya, 1914-31. As a Pioneer in the East African Pioneer Company, he entered the East African theatre of war on 22 November 1915. On 2 September 1917 he was commissioned into the Royal Garrison Artillery (Special Reserve) and posted to the East African Unattached List. Whilst serving with the East African Railway Corps he was mentioned in Lieutenant-General Sir J. L. Deventer’s despatch for distinguished services during the operations in East Africa from 30 May to December 1917. He retired from his civil employment in 1931 and later lived at Croft Cottage, Kimberley Road, Parkstone, Dorset. With copied research.
