Richard Moore Walton was born in Claremont, Cape Town. A Traveller by occupation, he attested for the 6th Citizen Battery (Prince Alfred’s Own Cape Field Artillery) on 7 August 1914. He was discharged on 20 July 1915, having served at Mushroom Valley and Uppington during the ‘1914 Rebellion’. He then attested for the South African Heavy Artillery on 12 August 1915 and entered France on 1 May 1916. Walton served with the 73rd South African Heavy Siege Battery from 1 January 1917. He was discharged on 2 July 1919. With copied service papers and other research.
