The destroyer H.M.S. Hurricane won Battle Honours for Atlantic 1940-43 and Biscay 1943, but was torpedoed and sunk by the U-415 north-east of the Azores on 24 December 1943. She had earlier been badly damaged in an air raid on Liverpool and been involved in rescuing survivors from the S.S. City of Benares - bound for Canada with children.
