Maurice Charles Atkinson was born in Dover, Tasmania in May 1924 and enlisted in the Australian Army at Conara, Tasmania in April 1943. He was discharged from the 40th Australian Infantry Battalion as a Private in March 1945.

Charles Robert Pierce was born in Port Pirie, South Australia in January 1893 and enlisted into the Australian Army in Adelaide, South Australia in October 1940. He was discharged from the 25/33 Australian Garrison Battalion in the rank of Private in November 1945.
