Ronald Thomas Phillips was born in Comboyne, N.S.W., in July 1922 and enlisted into the Royal Australian Air Force at Mount St. Thomas, Sydney in April 1941. He was discharged as a Leading Aircraftsman from 11 R. & S.U. in February 1946.

John Francis Hiney was born in Sydney in May 1908 and enlisted into the Royal Australian Air Force at Bentleigh, Melbourne, Victoria, in July 1940. He was discharged as a Sergeant from 1 Personnel Depot on 5 November 1945.
