Saleroom Notices
The following were amendments to the catalogue descriptions
Lot no.
6 The recipient, born at Skipton, enlisted into the 53rd Foot in May 1810 and served in India from November 1811. He was transferred to the 41st Foot at Madras in August 1822 and discharged with the rank of Sergeant in October 1834. Sold with copy papers.
20 The recipient’s name is entered by hand in ink on the official medal roll [WO 100/110] but no clasp entitlement is shown. His claim was sent from the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, and the medal issued on 15 December 1910. Lt William F. Butler served with the 69th Foot in the Fenian Raid 1870 expedition and as Intelligence Officer on the staff with the Red River expedition. Butler is the only recorded recipient of the Red River clasp to the 69th but the possibility remains that Beamish may also have been there, perhaps as Butler’s batman or servant. Sold with relevant photocopies of rolls and musters.
338 The footnote should be disregarded
656 This is not a family group; the miniatures worn by Lt-Col H.E. Greatwood are not in the lot
832 This is a badge of the South Wales Borderers Volunteer Battalion
866 The recipient only had one confirmed ‘victory’, not two as stated
896 The recipient is also entitled to the China medal, 1857-60, no clasp, for service aboard HMS Sanspareil
916 The two Sudan medals are named R. Hart, the two Boer War medals are named J. Hart
