William Roy, who was born in Tayport, Fife in July 1909, is known to have served in the following ships in the 1939-45 War: the Fort Ville Marie (February 1942 to July 1943), the Ashbell Hubbard (August 1943 to February 1944), the Calumet (March to August 1944), the Fort McLoughlin (August to September 1944) and the Blaird (February to June 1945); sold with Ministry of Transport campaign medal forwarding slip and the recipient’s original Board of Trade Certificate of Discharge, showing service in the Merchant Navy until May 1953, the inside bearing the following endorsement: ‘Renewal. Original reported lost’, possible evidence of his ship having been lost to enemy action prior to early 1942.
