Edward Morton, who was born in April 1835, was appointed an Assistant Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service in May 1858, and gained advancement to Surgeon in May 1870 and to Surgeon Major in July 1873. He does not appear, however, to have witnessed any active service until the Second Afghan War 1878-80, when he served in medical charge of the 29th Bombay Native Infantry in both campaigns. He died in London in January 1881.
