Jacob Peach was born in and enlisted at Newport, Isle of Wight. Serving with the 5th Dragoon Guards (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) he was awarded the D.C.M.

‘For covering with his section the retirement of his troop from an exposed position. This was done without casualties to the remainder of the troop, but all of Corporal Peach’s section, except himself, were killed or wounded.’

Corporal Peach was killed in action on 31 October 1914, aged 23 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Fred and Ellen Rosa Peach of 2 Union Street, Newport, Isle of Wight.
