Private Edward Smith, 31st Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment), was killed in action on 6 November 1917, aged 39 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Joseph and Ann Smith of New Street, Irchester, Wellingborough, England.
Private Charles Edwin Shears, 102nd Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment), died of wounds on 6 June 1917, aged 34 years. He was buried in the Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. Born in Barnsley, W. Yorkshire, he was the son of William and Hannah Shears of Freshwater, Isle of Wight.
