Robert Ian Donner was born on 4 December 1930. On 2 May 1950 he was commissioned as a National Serviceman into the Royal Engineers. On 20 July 1952 he converted to a Short Service Commission and was posted to Malaya. He retired in 1955 and went to work for the Railway eventually rising to the position of "Senior Controller Railway". He died in the Kent and Canterbury Hospital on 27 November 1999.
